Blog Entry 5

For this blog entry I want to talk about the question, "What do you think is the most important role a teacher plays?  Why?"
My response to this is that what I think the most important role that a teacher can play is someone they trust. I feel that trust is something that a teacher and students have to have to be able to succeed on both ends.
Something I have noticed in my classroom observation is that these children trust their teacher and their classroom helpers with their whole hearts. They would have such a hard time functioning in the classroom if that trust was not built.
A teacher is supposed to help push a child to be their best. A child will only reciprocate if they know they can trust what the teacher is telling them.

What clerical and preparation responsibilities have you participated in?

I have participated in many different responsibility in the class. I have helped  prepare different activities for the children. I helped some of the aids in preparing a craft for Halloween of pumpkins that the children could decorate. I have also helped in getting the children ready and helping explain how to do these crafts.
Another thing that I have helped with the children with was helping them line up for lunch and guiding them to the lunch room. This was a fun experience because I was able to talk to the kids about their day and their experiences of the day.

What modifications for learners who are exceptional do you see?
Because I am in an Life Skills class I see differences for these exceptional students all day. From what I compare to my own education when I was younger. In the class I am in there are children from 1st- 4th grade. The way Mr. Bob (that's what they call him :)) teaches them is very different from what their normal classroom time would be. He has to take things a lot slower and does a more "hands on" approach. He has an interactive board so the children can come and touch answers or move questions to answers. They also have a physical education time because they do not go out side every day for Recess. During this time they do activities to help with colors, shapes, directions- you name it. I really enjoy seeing them learn their own ways and to help them with the direction of the teacher.
